Huismann, Mary Christison. Frederick Delius: A Guide to Research. Routledge Music Bibliographies. New York, Routledge: 2005.
-
Bibliographic citations of Delius research. Intended for students and researchers, as well as those seeking an introduction to Delius. Not a comprehensive record of published materials, but a selective, annotated list of essential texts published through 2002.
-
Substantial, relevant writings in English and major European languages published through the end of 2002. Preference was given to materials easily accessible through normal library research methods. Citations gathered through the University of Minnesota library gateway, Music Index, IIMP, RLIM, WorldCat, RLIN, and other databases, library catalogs, reviews, and musical reference works. Citations include monographs on the life and works of Delius, articles in scholarly journals and selected popular magazines, doctoral dissertations from North America, selected master's level theses, selected reviews of performances, recordings, and scores, festivals and exhibitions devoted to Delius, web sites and Internet sources, and original creative works inspired by or dedicated to Delius, including an indexing of the Delius Society Journal complete through issue no. 134.
-
Divided into three major categories all containing subcategories. I. Biography-includes a biographical sketch, chronology, and list of works. II. Bibliography divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with source materials, including Delius's writings and correspondence. Catalogs and collections of articles and essays make up the next two chapters. The fourth chapter is a selective list of articles published in the Delius Society Newsletter and The Delian. The final chapter, Secondary Sources, is devoted to reference works containing Delius information, surveys of his life and works, topical studies, genre studies, studies of individual compositions, and materials in audio-visual or electronic format. III. Related Materials-contains citations to original creative works that were inspired by or dedicated to Delius. Entries within each category are arranged alphabetically by author. Annotations give a brief, objective description of the contents of the item. A Selective List of Works Dedicated to, Inspired by, or Created in Memory of Delius follows Related Materials. It includes art, dance, drama and fiction, films with Delius music, and poetry. A Discography limited to commercially available compact discs issued between 1983 and 2002 follows. Three separated indexes also maintain alphabetical organization; Index of Compositions, Index by Keyword, and Index by Name.
-
Thorough list of all materials in reference to Frederick Delius. Inclusion of Discography, Related Materials, and emphasis on a Bibliography separate this source from other Delius reference sources.
-
Though thorough, it is not clear how much was or was not included.
