There are five browsing options: composer, poet, arias, Latin texts, or all titles. These options appear on the homepage or on the right side of most pages on the site. Composers and poets are organized alphabetically by last name, grouped in separate pages by the first letter. The works on each composer page are divided into arias and art songs. The arias are listed alphabetically, grouped by opera, which are also in alphabetical order. Art songs are listed underneath in alphabetical order and grouped by opus number or are placed into a miscellaneous category. There is also a combined alphabetical list of all works available by that composer. The poems on each poet page are listed in one alphabetical list.
Arias are organized by composer last name. These names are also grouped in separate pages by first letter, but these pages also include the corresponding works rather than just the composer names. The Latin Texts page lists all Latin songs alphabetically in three categories: miscellaneous, ordinary, and requiem. The All Titles page initially lists every work alphabetically by the first word of the song’s title, but that list can be limited to one letter of the alphabet. One can also filter this list by language and genre (art songs, arias, or all).
These resources are available in their entirety by purchasing a score, but a sample page for each song is free for all to view. This sample page includes the title, name of the larger work, author(s) of the text and the composer at the top. It then provides the original text, the IPA transcription, and a word-for-word English translation. There may also be an idiomatic translation to add clarity to the meaning. These sample pages only include the transcription and translation for a few lines, and the rest of the text in just the original language.
Other pages on this site include information about IPA Source, the option to buy a subscription, a contact form, blog, billing portal, and a help page. -
Provides lists of composers’ vocal works, which could be helpful for research specific to repertoire for voice.
-
Full translations must be bought to use. It is a little unclear that the arias collection are to be searched by composer last name.
