-
To expand the knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Fats Waller’s enormous talent and output. Intended especially for use in searching for information on a particular broadcast or recording.
-
The first broadcast listing dates from 1923, then continuing up till Waller’s death in December 1943. In the first appendix, highlights are traced in recording history that date from 1877 to 1942. The two last entries, 1943 and 1945, concern broadcasting but not recording. In the second appendix, the discography, Taylor considers 78s, 45s, LPs, and CDs (the last category up to issues of May 21, 2005, but not comprehensibly), while excluding tapes.
-
The first half of the publication consists of three chapters: Broadcast Listing, Additional Information, and Broadcast Tributes and Other Programs. In the broadcast listing, information covered for each broadcast includes program titles, dates, times, stations, locations, sponsors, announcers, performers, guests, music performed, and discographical data for audio transcriptions. The work concludes with two appendixes, a bibliography, and two indexes comprise the latter half of the book. The first appendix is a timechart of early sound recording, and the second is a discography. A bibliography follows, after which there is a People and Places index and a Tune Title index. Also includes a section of 25 photographs.
