Collectio musicalis Maximilianea
-
The Collection of older Italian musical works, commissioned by King Maximilian II of Bavaria and acquired by the Court Kapellmeister Johann Kaspar Aiblinger, is an extensive collection of transcripts with mainly liturgical vocal music, especially from the Roman School. In 1833, Aiblinger was to undertake research on the music archives and collections of famous masterpieces on an artistic journey to Italy and, if possible to enrich the musical art treasures of the K. Hofbibliothek in Munich by acquiring originals or copies. The Collectio musicalis Maximilianea was designed on the one hand to complete the repertoire of the Munich Hofkapelle, and on the other hand to enable music researchers to study and as illustrative material for the education of young composers.
