Valerie Coleman : flutist Y composer
-
The biography for Valerie Coleman is fairly brief. The main purpose is to highlight her contributions as an active composer and performer. It reads more like a resume, discussing her relevant experience, notable activity, and accomplishments as a musician. Her works are listed according to instrumentation, with additional separate pages for viewing the genres individually. The works are ordered chronologically by their published date. Coleman has her own publishing company as well as companies she partners with. About half of her works have Available for Purchase links from companies like Theodore Presser, Amazon, and Flute World, with a few more that refer you to the VColeman store on her website. She has a few links to published CD’s that have her music. There are lots of mp3 audio files, videos, and links to videos included throughout her website in different places. They represent about a third of her works. There are two pages that include information on upcoming events. In her Tours tab, she lists the festivals she’ll be performing in and the recitals she’ll be giving. Under the News heading, you can see pictures of the important events from previous years as well as other visual highlights. Throughout the website there are sporadic quotes and links to articles regarding Coleman’s works and performances. There are also four separate pages that review her recently published works as well as pieces that have yet to be premiered. Each page includes a lengthy review of the piece. On the ‘News’ page, there is one particular entry regarding a dissertation published one of Coleman’s major works, but there isn’t a spot dedicated to the research that’s been done on her. Photos of Coleman are posted all over the site, with most of them coming from the ‘News’ section. (Jamie Sharp)
