Bruce Bollerud (1934-2020), was a professional musician in the Madison, WI area from the 1960s-2000s. He played bandoneon, piano accordion, jug, and trombone with a number of local bands, notably the Goose Island Ramblers and the Good Time Band. The Goose Island Ramblers were an old-time polkabilly band active during the 1960s, 70s, and 90s. Their repertoire combined Anglo-American country music, Norwegian-American fiddle tunes and dialect songs, an array of European dance tunes, regional transformations of American popular songs, and original compositions regarding life in Wisconsin. Throughout his career, Bollerud amassed a collection of materials that document his professional activities as a musician as well as a special education teacher. This collection contains photographs, published sheet music, manuscript sheet music, lyric sheets, song lists, a chronology of the Bollerud Family, and an autobiographical manuscript, Recollections. Sound recordings include Goose Island Ramblers rehearsal tapes, performances house parties, live concerts and radio appearances; as well as private recordings of Bollerud with other local musicians such as Ole Gjerald, Joe Weum, Emil Simpson and Sammy Eggum.
