Gialdroni, Giuliana, and Teresa M. Giadroni, editors. Libretti per Musica del Fondo Ferrajoli della Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana. Lucca: Libreria Musicale Italiana, 1993.
-
A collection of a variety of musical books, scores and original manuscripts from the palazzo Ferrajoli and donated to the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana in 1926.
-
One family's collection of thousands of musical volumes and librettos; primarily manuscripts of melodrammi, balli, oratori, cantate, componimenti drammatici, intermezzi, operette, and prologhi per musica dating from 1600 to 1880.
-
The catalogue is organized in alphabetical order by title. Each catalogue entry contains the following: title, genre, venue of first performance, date of first performance, city of first performance, number of pages, poet or librettist, composer, character names and singers who performed the character in the first performance (if applicable), and orchestral information. Three indexes at the end are as follows: index by composer name; index of performance venues, organized by theatre and year presented; and an index of character names from the catalogue.
-
Singers in original productions are listed - very helpful for fact studies.
-
All genres are mixed together with the composer imbedded in the entry, which can be confusing and makes some works difficult to find. No story lines or voice types included with the character names.
