Items in the bibliography consist of reviews, articles, essays, general music reference books, motion picture guides, works written by Rawsthorne, juvenilia, files at the Oxford University Press, files in the BBC Written Archies, files in the Dartington Hall Archives, and files at the National Archives of Kew Garden. English is the primarily language of items, but a few are in German and Italian.

The resource is divided into a biography, three sections, five appendixes, and an index. The biography is a succinct look at the composer's life and career. Section 1 deals with Works and Performances, with entry numbers prefixed by the letter W. Entries are categorized by genre, and then are organized alphabetically by title. Information provided is the work's dates, instrumentation, publication data, dedication, duration, and the location of the manuscript. The first and selected performances are listed chronologically. Section 2 is a discography, with entry numbers prefixed by the letter D. Commercial recordings are grouped by labels, which are listed alphabetically, and then arranged by catalog number. Archival recordings are arranged by shelf-number or by work within an institution's holdings. Provided information lists title, performers, record label number, and format. Section 3 is an annotated, selected bibliography, which is divided into eleven smaller subsections. Subsections 1 through 3 and 8 are organized alphabetically by author (or integrated by title, if author is unknown.) Subsection 4 lists juvenilia works alphabetically by title. Subsection 5 describes and catalogues Rawsthorne files at Oxford University Press and is roughly alphabetical by title. Subsection 6 describes and catalogues Rawsthorne files at the BBC Written Archives, arranged roughly by file number and then roughly chronologically. Subsection 7 describes and catalogues Rawsthorne files at the Dartington Hall Archives. Entries are organized numerically by file number. Subsection Subsection 11 is organized alphabetically by composition title, with entries arranged alphabetically by author below each subheading. Entries have complete bibliographic information and are annotated. Appendix A is song cycle and multi-section works components arranged alphabetically by title. Appendix B is an alphabetical works list. Appendix C is a chronological works list. Appendix D is the Manchester Manuscript Collection. Appendix E is works of other composers dedicated to Rawsthorne. It concludes with an alphabetical index of composer names, performers, conductors, authors, performing organizations, and composition titles. Sections and appendixes are all cross-referenced.

The letter-number system of identification makes it easy to determine the nature of an item when searching through the indexes and is helpful for following material about a composition across genre. The author knew the composer well, so the biography has an intimate feel.

Discographies, particularly ones claiming to be complete, can be made quickly obsolete.
