Boccagna, David L. Musical Terminology: A Practical Compendium in Four Languages. Stuyvesant, N.Y.: Pendragon Press, 1999.
-
A dictionary of musical terms. Useful as a quick reference for the performer at any level. Also useful for the composer in helping to write more precise instructions to performers.
-
Includes terms most frequently found in print music commonly used by performers. All entries are terms taken out of published scores. To be included, a term had to appear in at least two of the four languages included in the book. Does not include terms specific to a particular instrument. Terms can be looked-up in Italian, French, German, and English.
-
Includes an introduction and a section on The Evolution of Agogic Terms. This section describes how the terminology we currently use in print music evolved to its current state. The main body of the book is divided into four sections. Section one is organized Italian-French-German-English. Section two is organized French-German-Italian-English. Section three is organized German-Italian-French-English. Section four is organized English-Italian-French-German.
-
Up-to-date; convenient size. Very practical for use in rehearsal and practice as it contains only commonly used terms.
