Brody, Elaine, and Claire Brook. The Music Guide to Great Britain: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland. New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1975.
-
Provides practical information on musical events, resources, and places of interest in Great Britain, and intended to help a musician organize and time their trip at an optimal time to Britain.
-
Provides practical information on the musical events, resources, and places of interest in Great Britain that would assist a musician (whether researcher, student, or tourist) in organizing their travels to Europe. Examples of information that might be included are concert halls, libraries, museums, conservatories, musical landmarks, organizations, festivals, competitions, periodicals, and other miscellaneous.
-
The book is divided into sections on England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Major cities are then given their own sections, in alphabetical order, with smaller cities being grouped into a general category at the end of each country or having a short essay written for them. For most cities, the following categories are covered: Opera Houses and Concert Halls, Libraries and Museums, Conservatories and Schools, Musical Landmarks, Musical Organizations, Miscellaneous, Business of Music, Festivals and Competitions, and Periodicals. Information varies for each city but the authors try to include the most valuable and pertinent information for visitors.
-
A great summary and starting place for visitors to see what is available. Because it is somewhat outdated, these ideas can then be further pursued on the internet.
