Serious record collectors can determine a recording's value for future purchasing, pricing, and/or selling. Scholars or collectors can also discover rare or valuable recordings that further their research or collections. Scholars may further their research in the histories of recording companies.
-
Includes citations for over 191,000 recordings that Ars Antiqua approves for its publication lists. Features recordings in all formats, with the main emphasis on LPs. Any classical music, shows and soundtracks, spoken recordings such as plays, miscellaneous recordings with sound effects, sampler disks, and audio test records fall in this broad category. Does not list recordings of jazz, pop, soul, country, Western, folk, or ethnic music. Gives information about what is on each recording, and how much each recording could sell for at retail price.
-
Divides book into sections by recording format. Alphabetizes label names within each section. Lists recordings numerically under corresponding label names by manufacturer number. Manufacturer numbers include a prefix number if the recording company issued two or more recordings with the same manufacturer number. A symbol following each manufacturer number denotes the mode of recording. Each recording's citation also includes a description of the recording's contents, and the names of composer(s) and performer(s).
-
Includes information about the pressing vintages of LPs, which indicates records' value. Gives a good history of the recording companies.
-
Does not provide recording dates.
