This notebook gives a thorough listing of late 19th- and 20th-century viola works until about 1985. Short work discussions are given for selected pieces, mainly regarding difficulty and musical style. Chamber works (except string quartets) that feature the viola are also listed. Possible alternate instrumentation is also listed where necessary.
-
Composers are listed alphabetically with birth and death dates. A short work discussion follows, highlighting specific works and helpful information in considering the following repertoire written by the composer for the viola. Information given for each work: title, key and opus information, alternate instrumentation (if applicable), publisher, and publishing date.
