-
A thematic catalog of the collected works of composer Ferruccio Busoni.
-
This catalog attempts to list all known works composed by or attributed to Edvard Grieg, as well as practice exercises and sketches of compositions.
-
The book begins with an introduction, frequently cited literature, other cited thematic catalogs, editions of cited collections of Busoni’s letters, and abbreviations. The catalog proper then follows, which is split into three sections: original compositions, cadenzas, and arrangements/editions. Entries are chronologically organized and include incipits, librettists, instrumentation, locations of autographs, first editions, research related to the sources for each work, and references to other thematic catalogs.
Following the catalog are three appendices: (1) piano exercises, editions, and and nation studies, (2) composition sketches, counterpoint studies, and other studies, and (3) sketches and fragments. Following the appendices are separate, systematically organized indexes for original compositions, lost or fragmented compositions, and editions/arrangements. These indexes are organized by genre. The book concludes with separate indexes for printed compositions according to the year of their first appearance, compositions with opus numbers assigned by Busoni himself, vocal compositions organized alphabetically by title and text beginning, publishers, locations of autographs, dedicatees, and names of people organized alphabetically. -
It lacks information about premieres for most entries; this information has been occasionally included with selected entries only. Volume correspondence in scholarly editions for each work seems to be absent.
