Krummel, Donald W. Bibliotheca Bolduaniana: A Renaissance Music Bibliography. Detroit Studies in Music Bibliography, no. 22. Detroit: Information Coordinators, Inc., 1972.
-
For the curious student and scholar of Renaissance music bibliographers, particularly for those seeking comparisons between Bolduanus works and those of Draudius and Göhler.
-
Contemporary facsimile edition of the Bolduanus Bibliotheca philosophica (published 1616), with parallel English translation from the original Latin. Bolduanus sought to prepare a subject guide to all the books in the world. This particular section of his publication focuses on publications of musical sources, mostly before 1611. Criteria for selecting sources may be attributed to previous publications by Draudius and Göhler (Many critics claim that Bolduanus copied their bibliographies, not unusual for that time period).
-
Facsimile with modern enhancements includes Contents, Introduction, Bibliography, Index of Categories, Facsimile and Annotations, and Index. Introduction provides historical background and information describing Boldanus's organization of entries with comparisons to similar publications in that era. Bibliography section begins with other useful bibliographies pertaining to early music. Index of Categories provided to show Boldanus's classification of sources, together with original page numbers and convenient entry numbers (1-1299). Facsimile shown on right page with partial translations and abbreviated annotations on left page. Citations/annotations include only name/title with corresponding publication date (not surprising considering they are over four or five centuries old) and organized alphabetically according to first name (standard conservative procedure in his day). Annotations limited to providing references to other bibliographies cited in the Bibliography section. Because Bolduanus's publication so closely resembles that of Draudius and Göhler, two separate columns are provided to show where the corresponding citation may be found in their relative publications. Name index in back organized by author's last name.
