Llorens Cisteró, José María. Le opere musicali della Cappella Giulia. Città del Vaticano: Biblioteca apostolica vaticana, 1971.
-
Guide to manuscripts, chant codices, MSS of polyphonic music, and music prints in the library of the Cappella Giulia, housed since 1941 in the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana.
-
Includes opera manuscripts from main composers such as Palestrina, who dedicated their lives to working at the Cappella Giulia. Manuscripts include 67 in Latin and 58 in Italian.
-
Three major sections compose this volume. The first contains 22 manuscripts of canto fermo. Citations describe the parchment or cards on which manuscripts are written. The second section cites (from numbers 23-61) manuscripts of polyphonic music. The largest part of the volume cites the publications of the manuscripts. Included within each citation are: dates of composition and dedicatees. An opening index cites the century when each work was composed, the original catalogue number, and the number given today in the catalogue. Each entry includes century, physical description of the manuscript, and any salient features of the manuscripts. Citations are organized by date of composition. Indexes include scores of sacred works by anonymous composers and an index of proper names. Lastly, numerous facsimiles are included, showing examples of some of the manuscripts cited.
