Manson, Adele P. Calendar of Music and Musicians. Metuchen, New Jersey: Scarecrow Press, 1981.
-
Gives brief biographical data on performers, composers, and conductors, as well as historical data on music in a calendar format. Helpful to librarians, teachers, and other musicians in planning exhibits, programs, and announcements.
-
As it would be impossible to include every musical event in history, the author has attempted to choose events that represent a cross-section of musical styles, periods, genres, and nationalities. The earliest entries are for Philippe de Vitry in the thirteenth century, with the latest entries being in the mid 1980s. Events might include births, deaths, premieres, publications, or other major musical events.
-
Organized like a calendar, with each date listing chronologically the years and event that took place on that date. An index of personal and corporate names is provided, along with a title index of works with distinctive subtitles.
