Meade, Guthrie T., Jr., Doug Spottswood, and Douglas S. Meade. Country Music Sources: A Biblio-Discography of Commercially Recorded Traditional Music. Chapel Hill, North Carolina: Southern Folklife Collection, 2002.
-
Lists recordings of traditional American music including country, Southern/Appalachian traditional music, and some blues. Focuses on authenticity of performance.
-
Includes country and American folk music recorded by commercial companies from the 1920s through the early 1940s. Includes 78s, microgroove records, and re-released recordings on CD. Consists of 3,399 items and 11,402 sound recordings.
-
The discography begins with a prologue, foreword, preface, introduction, a section describing the format of the discography, a list of label abbreviations, and instrument and other abbreviations. The discography itself is divided into four sections: ballads, songs, religious songs, and instrumental music. These major sections are then further divided into smaller, related sub-sections. Within each sub-section, recordings are arranged by song title, which are usually ordered chronologically (it varies, by author's own admission). Each entry lists composer credits and other annotations. Each recording entry lists song title as it appeared on the record, performers, recording date, recording location, matrix number, type of accompaniment, label and catalog information, and release dates. It concludes with a bibliography and two indexes, the first a song title index and the second a performance index.

This source contains a wide variety of American music including: hillbilly music, African-American traditional music, immigrant music, Black Face Minstrel Pieces, Sacred Harp songs, war songs, and Schottisches and Glogs.
