-
Aids for the young or beginning bass voice who needs appropriate vocal literature within his present range and tessitura. Primarily selects songs that were composed or arranged specifically for bass or low voice with careful attention paid to the tessitura of each song.
-
Provides songs originally composed for higher voice which would be workable for young bass voices when transposed as well as music composed for low voice which would be suitable for young bass voice. Includes annotated guide with introductory songs. Gives introductory art songs in French, German, Italian, Latin, Russian, Spanish, as well as English and appropriate English versions for those songs in foreign languages. Each introductory song contains its own background material with interesting biographical information. The songs suggested by annotated guide ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately difficult are melodious with texts that are easy to understand and short to medium in length. The annotated guide includes not only songs of the sea, sacred songs, early English songs, folk songs, spiritual, and ballades, but also suggestions for appropriate introductory arias from opera, oratorio, and cantata for beginning bass. Offers accompaniments that are easier to play and are in simple keys.
-
The book is divided into seven chapters. First chapter explains what a Bass voice is and how to recognize the young bass voice, and second chapter contains guidelines for choosing repertoire. Songs in different languages and genres are presented in chapter 3 through 7. Each annotation consists of the information such as the composers' names, birth and death dates, nationalities, titles of songs, the language of the piece, the tempo indication, the meter indication, the overall range of the vocal line, the tessitura, the difficulty level, the source of the song or aria, name of the publisher, and possible comments on the song. Includes sections for index by composers, titles, and publishers.
-
Each chapter has introductory songs as an illustration or example, and the biographical and background information contained in each introductory song helps on interpretation.
