Palkovic, Mark. Harp Music Bibliography Supplement: Compositions for Solo Harp and Ensemble. Lanham, Maryland; London: The Scarecrow Press, Inc., 2002.

This bibliography is intended for use by music librarians and as an aid to practicing harpists in expanding their repertoires and in research into the literature of the harp.

The chamber music and concertos volume covers published works that include harp from 1801-2001. The chamber music volume includes only published works, and only those specifically identified as having been written or arranged for harp. The listing was compiled from entries in the bibliographic utilities OCLC, RLIN, the Catalogue of Printed Music of the British Library, the harp collections at Brigham Young University, and stock of harp music dealers Lyon & Healy Harps and Vanderbilt Music Company. Excluded are manuscript scores, rental material, student theses and dissertations, publications before 1800, and reprints by the same publisher.

The bibliography is arranged first by genre classification, and then alphabetically by composer, arranger, or compiler for collected anthologies or anonymous works. Each citation is assigned a number. The citations include composer/arranger with birth and death dates, title, publication information, pagination, and some brief information about the piece, particularly if it was originally a piece for another instrument like the piano. When an entry fits into more than one genre classification, it is abbreviated and cross-referenced to the complete citation. Uniform titles are used when necessary to properly identify the original title. There are three indexes: a name index, a title index, and a list of works playable on non-pedal harps. The first two are alphabetical by name or title.

This book is well-organized to help the harpist find pieces according to genre and composer. It is important to note that this is not a repertory guide, so it does not attempt to rate a piece by difficulty. It simply lists as many pieces as the author could find of published material for the harp.
