Stemmer, Michael. Western Movie Composers: A Selected, Annoted Listing of 2006 Genre Films Shown in Germany. Berlin: Wiesjahn GmbH, 1995.
-
To aid in the research of composers of the musical scores of Western movies shown in Berlin up until 1995. Useful to see the connections between American movie themes and their worldwide influence and what composers were involved.
-
Includes a filmography/discography of 658 composers involved in scoring motion pictures of the Western genre, as well as other films that deal with American frontier. Chosen films were shown in Germany up until 1995 (thus including pre-war Germany, German Federal Republic and German Democratic Republic). These sources include on-screen, television, 16mm, 8mm and Super 8mm film; video-cassettes and videodiscs. No Singing Cowboy movies were included. XXX-rated movies are included. Only scores that have ever been available on vinyl are included. Compact discs are usually not listed unless an identical phonograph record exists.
-
The filmography/discography lists the composers alphabetically by last name. For each composer, the entry includes the year of the movie score, original English film title, German title, film director and additional notes. Additional notes vary from music producers, co-composers, medium of existing recordings, record label where applicable, unique musical elements and performing forces, etc. Appendix 1 lists theme songs from Western movies alphabetically by last name of the composer. Appendix 2 lists Award winner scores of the selections alphabetically by last name of the composer. The catalogue concludes with a list of the original movie titles in alphabetical order followed by a list of the movie titles by their German title in alphabetical order.
