Selected flute repertoire: A Graded Guide for Teachers and Students. Santa Clarita, California: National Flute Association, 2001.
-
To provide a graded guide to flute repertoire that will provide students and teachers with a better method of selecting music to learn based on playing ability and level. The book was published due to a lack of any standard syllabus or graded repertoire system in the United States.
-
Includes works for solo flute and solo flute with piano which are considered by the National Flute Association Pedagogy Committee to be the best repertoire for learning purposes.
-
A thorough chart at the beginning describes specific requirements for each graded level. Repertoire is listed alphabetically by composer within each level of difficulty (A-J), with separately published solos appearing first and collections second. Individual entries include the composer, title, publisher, and may or may not specify particular requirements for the piece (such as B-footjoint, flutter tonguing, or extended techniques).
-
Very concise and good accessibility.
-
Only includes works for flute solo and flute solo with piano. Excludes a large amount of repertoire to almost oversimplify the breadth of the flute repertoire.
