The included elements within this discography are: all released and unreleased recordings scheduled for issue on the Decca 5000 series, all released recordings on the Champion 45000 series, all released and unreleased recordings schedule for issue on the Decca 17000 (Cajun) series, and all recordings owned by Decca which were released on Montgomery Ward. Excluded Elements include: recordings released on the 46000 series which were not first released on the 5000 series, all foreign issues, LP and 45 RPM and compact disc reissues of material covered above, and all Decca releases in the special 2000 album series.

Listings are divided into the following sections: Decca 5000, Decca 17000, Decca/Champion 45000, and the Montgomery Ward. Each is in ascending numerical order. Citations include: the catalog number with successive listings of each A and B side (only in Decca 5000), song title, artist's name, nicknames, group names, accompanists, and a brief descriptive phrase called the legend, which is found on the record. Author recognizes that some confusion in records made it difficult to create a clear listing of the valid information.
