To provide a catalogue of French recordings for the general guidance of collectors of French gramophone recording.

The main catalogue follows the introduction and the list of sources used in this book and is divided into four sections, with each section being subdivided according to musical style (duet, male solo, female solo, orchestra, etc). Section A: Recordings issued on the Gramophone label from 1899-1929. Section B: Recordings issued on the Zonophone label from 1904-1912. Section C: Recordings listed on the Gramophone Green label from 1911-1929. Section D: Recordings listed in the Gramophone Flemish Catalogue from 1920-1929. From then, the contents of each section are listed in numerical order. Each entry in the catalogue contains the following information: the original numerical catalogue number, the serial (matrix) number, the date of the recording, the name of the artist(s) involved, the title of the piece, alternative issue numbers and occasional notes.
