-
To identify stringed instruments that are held in the Musikhistorisches Museum von Wilhelm Heyer in Cöln, as of 1912.
-
The catalog includes any plucked and bowed instruments, except clavier, that are found in the Musikhistorisches Museum of Wilhelm Heyer, in Cöln. Includes a historical introduction of many of these instruments, beginning in the 17th century, as well as a number of photographs.
-
The catalog is organized by instrument, with plucked instruments listed first and subdivided into specific instruments (harps, zithers, lutes, colachons, guitars, citterns, mandolins, hackbretts, gusli and kantelen). Bowed instruments are then listed (trummscheits, middle age fiddles, violins of different centuries, lyres, viols, violas, celli, contrabass, and bows). For each instrument, a brief introduction and history is given, and then specific types of the instrument are listed and museum possessions are listed in order of their number in the library's collection. Information provided for each instrument varies, but is of a respectable amount. A large number of photos of the actual instruments in the collection are also provided. Several indexes follow.
