Martin, Michael. “Thesaurus Precum Latinarum.” http://www.preces-latinae.org/index.htm (accessed 21 May 2019).
-
A guide to learning the texts and translations of Latin prayers and hymns with the objective of helping the audience develop an appreciation for them in the context of the Liturgy.
-
Includes Latin prayers and hymns with their English translations and commentaries on the history and use of each prayer. The collection spans the 2,000-year history of the Church although the compilers do not specify how comprehensive it is. There is no sheet music included.
-
The home page of the website provides three methods of organization of the repertory. The first method is the Table of Contents, which includes an Introduction, followed by the prayers organized by category: Basic Prayers, Numbers to Remember, Creeds, Prayers to God, Liturgy and Sacraments, Daily Prayers, Prayers for the Seasons of the Year, Prayers for Angels and Saints, and Various Occasions. The second method of organization, called the Index, provides an alphabetical listing by title of each of the Latin texts found on the website. The third method of organization is an Index by date of composition, staring from 1AD spanning to 2000 AD. Also included are links to a guide to pronouncing Latin, prayer books to print off, popular pages, and new items. The individual pages of the text begin with a description of the prayer or hymn, detailing the purpose and use of each text in the Liturgy. Other details about the texts include the author and their credentials. For each text, the original Latin is presented on the left and the English translation is on the right.
-
There are three different indexes, making it simple to find a specific prayer or any prayer based on a topic or time period. The sources are also up to date, the compiler regularly updates the site, and includes new prayers.
