A general audience might use this site to become more familiar with Britten’s life or the history of his music or to find a recording of a work he or she finds interesting. A musician might use it to find a work for performance.
-
This website contains a biography of Britten’s life, highlighting the history of his works. It contains lists of his principal works, though no criteria are given to explain which works are excluded. It also includes a discography. The discography is not complete but aims to cover all significant recordings available on digital media.
-
The biographical information is presented on separate pages, chronologically ordered, corresponding to important periods in Britten’s life. Pictures are included courtesy of the Britten/Pears library. The principal works are listed in two ways: on one page they are listed by genre (opera, orchestral, etc.) and under that heading they are listed chronologically including title, opus number, and premiere information. The second page of works lists them chronologically with no division according to genre or instrumentation. The page devoted to discography is organized alphabetically by title of the work with recordings, artists, and album numbers listed (with reviews for some).
