Scriabin Society of America. “Dedicated to the furtherance of the Music and Ideas of Alexander Scriabin.” http://www.scriabinsociety.com (accessed 10 November 2011)
-
To provide basic biographical information and a list of works to those wanting to learn more about Scriabin, whether students, professional musicians, or researchers. It also encourages and provides a way for users to join the Society and thus receive its Annual Journal.
-
Includes a complete list of compositions by Scriabin, as well as a short biography. The publications listed are only those specifically published or endorsed by the Scriabin Society. The list of links only includes what the site terms “reliable” websites, most of which are dedicated specifically to Scriabin or his contemporaries. However, several more general websites are also listed.
-
The site is divided into several sections, each listed on the right hand side of the page. The Home link, listed first, is simply the home page, welcoming users to the site. Next is Biography, linking to a brief biography of Scriabin, which includes two photographs. The Compositions link lists all of Scriabin’s compositions, organized into the following categories: Piano Sonatas; Solo Works (excluding sonatas); Works Without Opus Numbers; and Concertos, Symphonies & Other Orchestral Works. In each category, the titles and opus numbers of appropriate works are given, organized numerically by opus number. The About Us tab describes the history and purpose of the Scriabin Society of America, and lists the current officers and board members. The Join link explains the benefits of membership within the Scriabin Society, and provides a link to a subscription form. The Publications tab lists three publications by the Society, and three sources endorsed by them. Next is a link to Events page, which lists past events dating back to 1997, as well as upcoming events sponsored by the Society. The Forum link was not active at the time of access, but the final Links tab gives links to other websites where users can learn more about Scriabin and his contemporaries. There does not seem to be any particular order in which these links are listed.
-
Nicely organized, and easy to navigate. The links to other websites could be particularly useful.
-
The site lacks detailed biographical information on Scriabin, requiring users to join the Society to receive the Annual Journal for more details. This site would be inadequate for scholarly research.
