Boldrey, Richard. Guide to Operatic Duets. Dallas, Texas: Pst ... Inc., 1994.
-
A repertoire guide focusing on duets exclusively. A good reference for singers seeking duets to sing and for voice instructors looking for duets to assign. Identifying operatic duets appropriate to a specific voice range.
-
Includes duets from over 250 works in the standard operatic repertoire. A good balance between early and more modern works is maintained. Duets represented come from many countries and are in many languages.
-
The body of duets is repeated in five sections to provide quick cross-referencing. The first section is organized alphabetically by the name of the duet. The entries include the title of the duet, alternative titles if applicable, the opera it comes from, the composer's name and dates, and the language in which it is sung. There are also the roles that sing the duet and the voice parts of each, as well as a general classification of the duet (dramatic, lyric etc.). The second section lists the role names alphabetically. These entries have the opera title and composers name followed by the other role in the duet, voice parts and the duet's title. Next the duets are organized by voice category. Each category (soprano-soprano, mezzo-baritone, etc.) is then organized by language. In the fourth section the operas are listed alphabetically and roles for each are listed beneath. Lastly, the composers are listed alphabetically with a list of their represented works beneath each.
