Elliot, Paula & Linda Blair. Careers in Music Librarianship II: Traditions and Transitions. Music Library Association Technical Reports, No. 29. Lanham: Scarecrow Press, Inc., 2004.
-
A guide on the career of music librarianship intended to represent the current music librarian population and expand awareness of career possibilities within the field. Directed at current and future music librarians, or otherwise interested individuals.
-
Essays have been chosen that examine the career of music librarianship: training, job search, career development, professional development, and job environment. Selected References consist of books, web pages, and articles on the topics of music librarianship in general, types of music librarians, education, and work performed. The criterion of Selected References are resources published since 1990 from non-national or North American perspective or resources useful for understanding issues specific to the European Union.
-
There are eleven essays followed by an index and a Selected References section. Each essay provides a complete bibliography of sources used. Index is alphabetically integrated and provides page numbers to the corresponding essay. Entries under the Selected References section are organized by topic.
-
The index is absolutely necessary for finding specific information without reading every essay. Editor has allowed an independent voice for each writer to better represent the entire profession. Current to 2002.
-
It has the potential to become obsolete as a practical guide within a few years.
