-
General reference of opera information.
-
Operas in the standard repertoire are represented as well as some older works of value that are frequently overlooked. Information is given with regards to singers but is limited to those who have recorded and/or are currently singing. Composers and operatic roles are also covered.
-
Organized alphabetically. Entries for operas, composers, singers and roles are all integrated. Opera entries are brief, containing the character, composer, premiere information, and only a bare plot summary. Role entries have only the voice type of the role and the opera it comes from. The biographical entries for singers and composers vary greatly. Some are extensive and others scant. After the main dictionary there is a section devoted to the main opera houses organized alphabetically by city.
-
Photographs are included for some of the entries.
-
Some of the information may be dated now. It was published in 1983.
