Stambler, Irwin and Grelun Landon. Encyclopedia of Folk, Country and Western Music. New York: St. Martin's Press, 1969.
-
An encyclopedia of American musicians in Folk, Country, and Western music. Meant to present a readable, balanced picture of these genres.
-
Includes well-known 20th-century Folk, Country and Western musicians. Includes some blues musicians. Only a few isolated entries are not of musicians (such as The Grand Ole Opry and Newport Folk Festival). Musicians are chosen to show examples of the major trends in these genres.
-
The encyclopedia is organized alphabetically by artist or group name. Some entries are illustrated with photographs. Includes three selected articles about the development of Folk and Country music. Appendices include: a list of music awards given my major organizations, a selected discography (organized alphabetically by performer), and a bibliography.
