Musipedia: The Open Music Encyclopedia. Internet resource, http://www.musipedia.org/. Accessed 2 December 2010.
-
Offers a searchable, editable, and expandable collection of tunes, melodies, and musical themes.
-
Each entry can be edited by anyone and may contain a small portion of sheet music, a MIDI file, textual information about the work and the composer, and the Parsons Code (a rough description of the melodic contour).
-
The top of the homepage includes quick links to Keyboard Search, Contour Search, Flash Piano, Microphone Search, and Rhythm Search. Further down on the homepage, each link is explained in some detail. Keyboard Search offers a picture of a keyboard and rhythmic notation (varying note and rest values) to be navigated by mouse. Contour Search asks first for melodic contour identification, then keywords and/or search phrases, and lastly gives the option to restrict searches to certain categories, such as Popular, Classical, or Country. Flash Piano is an interactive option in which the user selects notes to play on a realistic piano, but is not given any opportunity to identify rhythm. Microphone Search allows the user to record singing or whistling. Lastly, in Rhythm Search, the user is instructed to tap the rhythm, and is also given the option to enter a search phrase.

Constantly revised and updated; searchable, editable, expandable. Easy to use, even for non-musicians.

Advertisements are embedded in each page. Editing is open to anyone, whether he/she has proper knowledge of the material or not.
